Suicide Prevention Month 26: Walk Together, Speak Up and Strengthen Hope in NH
September is Suicide Prevention Month; a time to raise awareness, share resources and remind people across New Hampshire that help is available and suicide can be prevented.
Preventing suicide takes all of us: families, friends, schools, health care providers, employers, community leaders and neighbors. Sometimes making a difference begins with a simple question: “How are you really doing?” Listening without judgment and helping someone connect with support can save a life.
This fall, Granite Staters have several opportunities to learn, connect and take action:
NAMIWalks New Hampshire - October 4
NAMIWalks NH, the state’s largest mental health awareness and suicide prevention event, will take place Sunday, October 4, in Concord. Thousands of Granite Staters are expected to walk together to challenge stigma, support people affected by mental illness and affirm that no one should face a mental health crisis alone. Registration is free and now open.
Out of the Darkness Community Walks
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s New Hampshire Chapter will hold Out of the Darkness Community Walks throughout the state:
Concord — September 13
Portsmouth — September 19
Greater Nashua — September 26
Keene — October 3
These walks bring together people affected by suicide, raise funds for prevention and research, and create a visible message of remembrance, connection and hope.
New Hampshire Suicide Prevention Conference - November 13
The New Hampshire Suicide Prevention Council will present its 2026 conference, “Fortifying Hope Across the Lifespan,” on Friday, November 13, at the Manchester Country Club. The conference will bring together people working in public health, mental health, education, business and caregiving to strengthen prevention efforts and support survivors of suicide loss and attempt survivors.
These events matter because connection matters. Every walk, conversation and training helps reduce stigma, build stronger support networks and make it easier for someone who is struggling to seek help.
During Suicide Prevention Month, we encourage everyone to take one meaningful step: register for a walk, attend the conference, learn the warning signs, check in with someone you care about or share information about available support.
A future with zero suicides begins with the actions we take today.
If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Support is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
